Hello, friends!

Today's Leader is...Grover the Bear!  He is still wearing his winter scarf, but tomorrow is the first day of SPRING!  We'll have a very special Leader tomorrow...can you guess who it might be?  I'll give you a hint-he is green, yellow, and red, and he eats a lot of fruit...

Today is March 18, 2020.

Grover and Darla learned some new words today in French.  Try these:

House = maison (say it like this: may-ZON)

School = école  (ay-COLE)

Hello = bonjour (bon-joo-er)

Goodbye = au revoir  (aw rev-wahr)

Fantastique!

The winner of the Iditarod is Thomas Waerner! He completed the race just after midnight with a time of 9 days, 10 hours, and 37 minutes.  Click here to see some great photos of his arrival in Nome!

Today's math challenge!

Thomas Waerner started the race with 14 dogs.  He finished the race with 10 dogs.  How many dogs got dropped during the race?

Brent Sass has 13 dogs.  Travis Beals has 7 dogs.  How many more dogs does Brent have than Travis?

You can draw a picture or use tools to help you figure out these challenges.  Which strategy did you use?

Today's Virtual Tour:

I was getting ready to go outside for some fresh air, and I remembered a vacation Mr. Cole and I took to Yosemite National Park a couple of years ago.  I thought you might like to see some pictures.

This is Mr. Cole, standing in front of a mountain called Half-Dome.
 Can you guess how it got its name?

Do you know what kind of bird this is?

A pine cone (not this one) from Yosemite was named the  largest one ever found in the whole world!

  Giant sequoias are considered by many to be the largest living things ever.  They're bigger than blue whales or dinosaurs.

There is also a virtual tour of the park that I enjoyed a lot:

What are you doing today?  I have been finding more things to share with you and choosing some books to record for the RSU 14 story time.  I also fed Eboo.  Darla helped!

Eboo is growing so fast!
He has been shedding his skin as he grows.                         Can you see his ears?  Amazing!

I can see that some of you have been doing your Lexia minutes/units.  Outstanding!

Have a great day!  Be sure to check back here tomorrow!  Remember...
